Publication Ethics

Sedulang: Journal of Language, Literature, Culture, and Their Teaching is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and takes all possible measures against publication malpractice. The journal follows ethical principles based on the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and expects all parties involved in the publication process—authors, editors, reviewers, and publishers—to adhere to these ethical standards.
Ethical Responsibilities of Authors
Authors submitting manuscripts to Sedulang must ensure that:
1.    Originality and Plagiarism
       o Manuscripts are original works and have not been plagiarized, either wholly or partially.
       o Proper acknowledgment and citation are provided for all sources used.
       o All submitted manuscripts will be screened for similarity and plagiarism.
2.    Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication
       o Manuscripts have not been published previously and are not under consideration by another journal simultaneously.
       o Authors must not submit the same manuscript to more than one publication at the same time.
3.    Authorship
       o Authorship is limited to individuals who have made significant contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the study.
       o All co-authors must approve the final version of the manuscript and agree to its submission.
4.    Data Integrity
       o Authors must present accurate data and research findings.
       o Fabrication, falsification, manipulation, or selective reporting of data is unacceptable.
5.    Acknowledgment of Sources
       o Authors must appropriately acknowledge the work of others and provide complete references.
6.    Disclosure of Conflicts of Interest
       o Authors must disclose any financial, institutional, or personal conflicts of interest that may influence the research or its           interpretation.
7.    Research Involving Human Participants
       o Research involving human participants must comply with applicable ethical standards and obtain necessary permissions or ethical approvals where required.
8.    Correction of Errors
       o If authors discover a significant error in their published work, they must promptly notify the editor and cooperate in correcting or retracting the article.

Ethical Responsibilities of Editors
Editors are responsible for ensuring a fair and transparent editorial process. Editors must:
1.    Evaluate manuscripts solely on their academic merit, originality, significance, clarity, and relevance to the journal's scope.
2.    Maintain confidentiality regarding submitted manuscripts.
3.    Ensure that manuscripts are reviewed through an objective and unbiased peer-review process.
4.    Avoid conflicts of interest and recuse themselves from handling manuscripts where conflicts exist.
5.    Take appropriate action when ethical concerns or allegations of misconduct arise.
6.    Make publication decisions based on reviewers’ recommendations, journal policies, and scholarly merit.
7.    Uphold principles of fairness without discrimination based on gender, ethnicity, nationality, religion, political beliefs, institutional affiliation, or other personal characteristics.

Ethical Responsibilities of Reviewers
Reviewers play a crucial role in maintaining the quality of published research. Reviewers are expected to:
1.    Conduct reviews objectively, constructively, and professionally.
2.    Provide clear, evidence-based feedback to help authors improve their manuscripts.
3.    Maintain the confidentiality of all manuscript information.
4.    Identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors.
5.    Inform the editor of any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under review and other known works.
6.    Decline to review manuscripts in cases of conflicts of interest or insufficient expertise.
7.    Complete reviews within the agreed review period.

Ethical Responsibilities of the Publisher
The publisher, Program Studi S-1 Pendidikan Bahasa Indonesia Universitas Bangka Belitung, is committed to supporting ethical publishing practices by:
1.    Safeguarding editorial independence.
2.    Ensuring that commercial interests do not influence editorial decisions.
3.    Providing support for ethical oversight and publication integrity.
4.    Facilitating the correction, clarification, retraction, or withdrawal of articles when necessary.
5.    Promoting transparency and accountability in scholarly publishing.

Publication Malpractice and Misconduct
The journal will not tolerate any form of publication misconduct, including but not limited to:
•    Plagiarism.
•    Data fabrication or falsification.
•    Citation manipulation.
•    Duplicate or redundant publication.
•    Undisclosed conflicts of interest.
•    Authorship manipulation (guest, gift, or ghost authorship).
•    Peer-review manipulation.
Any allegation of misconduct will be investigated following COPE guidelines. Depending on the severity of the case, actions may include manuscript rejection, publication of corrections, article retraction, notification to affiliated institutions, or other appropriate measures.

Copyright and Open Access Policy
Authors retain copyright of their work while granting the journal the right of first publication. All articles published in Sedulang are made freely accessible to readers under the journal’s open-access policy, promoting the broad dissemination of scholarly knowledge without financial, legal, or technical barriers.

By submitting, reviewing, editing, or publishing in Sedulang: Journal of Language, Literature, Culture, and Their Teaching, all parties agree to uphold the principles of honesty, transparency, fairness, accountability, and academic integrity that underpin responsible scholarly communication.
